The combination of a substantial budget, renowned writers and directors, and popular stars like Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee did not translate into success. Viewers found the dialogue outdated, and the pacing slow, which detracted from the overall immersion. Some critics even suggested that the series exploited anti-Japanese sentiments to create its creature narrative.

In contrast, Season 2 is anticipated to deliver a more exhilarating experience, with a focus on dynamic action sequences. In Gyeongseong Creature, these Kuroko attack and pursue the main characters like shadows, creating a chilling atmosphere.
