It’s a place everyone, locals and foreigners alike, should check out at least once. But hey, there’s more to Jeonju than just its heritage. Let’s dive in and see what makes Jeonju so unique.

Embracing Tradition and Modernity: Where Hospitality Meets Innovation

I’ve got a soft spot for Jeonju because of all the amazing memories from my trip there a while back.

Pretty much everyone I met in Jeonju was super friendly, and I had this really touching moment when someone found my lost suitcase and sent it back to me through the mail.

Jeonju Hanok Village is definitely a place you can’t miss.

Jeonju Hanok Village has been the backdrop for tons of beloved Korean dramas, from light-hearted romcoms to deep historical sagas, giving it a special vibe. Fans of K-dramas like “Sassy Girl Chun-hyang” and “The Jewel in the Palace” will totally get a kick out of walking through the same traditional houses they’ve seen on screen. It’s even more special for those who loved “Our Beloved Summer” because you can feel the love story vibes all around.

Then there’s “Twenty-Five Twenty-One,” set in the late ’90s, that brings back all those feels of young love and dreams among its main characters, right in the heart of Jeonju.

Jeonju Hanok Village isn’t just about good looks; it’s steeped in history with its traditional Korean houses and landmarks like Pungnam Gate and Gyeonggijeon, where you can see a portrait of King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty.

Walking around, you’ll see about 650 of these traditional houses, making you feel like you’ve stepped into a different era. It’s pretty much a photographer’s dream, with all those elegant, curved roofs and the unique architecture.

Don’t miss out on the Jeonju Traditional Liquor Museum to try some authentic Korean booze or the Jeonju Hanji Museum to see how traditional Korean paper is made. This paper isn’t just for writing; it’s used in all sorts of crafts, adding a cool touch to the place.

There’s also plenty of other spots to check out, like the Traditional Culture Center, Hanok Experience Center, and various traditional tea houses. And for a mix of old and new, swing by the Jeondong Catholic Church, one of Korea’s first Western-style buildings.

Oh, and Jeonju is big on family names, especially ‘Yi.’ There’s even a special place for the founder of the Jeonju Yi clan. So, Jeonju Hanok Village isn’t just another tourist spot; it’s a deep dive into Korea’s heart and history, making it a must-visit.

Food and Drinks

When Koreans think of Jeonju, they almost always think of “bibimbap.” Bibimbap is not only Jeonju’s representative food but also plays a role beyond mere a meal. It also boasts delicious Kongnamul Gukbap. It is relatively warmer in climate compared to other regions in Korea, so the food tends to be generally salty, at least for the average Korean. However, for travelers from Mediterranean countries like Spain or Italy, it might not be considered salty at all, so there’s no need to worry. This is purely my opinion.

After enjoying your meal it’s time to experience traditional Korean tea at a tea house. In Korea, drinking tea has long been considered a ritual and a means of nurturing the mind. Relieve travel fatigue by sipping tea. It will be a very beneficial wellness trip for both body and mind.

In this way, It is overflowing with traditional Korean exhibition halls and experience centers, making it an ideal filming location for dramas, offering a real taste of Korea with plenty to see and eat. I highly recommend visiting to experience authentic Korean culture.
